How it works

Three steps. Zero guesswork.

Built for the moments when you don't know who to call — and you don't have time to figure out the system. Here's exactly what happens after you start.

1

Tell us your situation

Pick what's actually happening in your life — getting divorced, charged with a DUI, starting a business — and your city. No legal jargon, no codes, no Latin. About 30 seconds.

2

Compare vetted firms

See ratings across four dimensions (overall, results, communication, value), fee structures, free-consultation availability, and a plain-English "Why this firm" verdict written by our editors — not the firm.

3

Book your free call

Most firms offer a free initial consultation. We connect you directly with the firm — no middleman, no commissions taken from your settlement, no fee added to your hourly rate.

What we actually do

The boring details — explained.

We're a directory, not a law firm.

LawFirmSquare lists law firms the way Yelp lists restaurants and Zillow lists houses. We do not represent you, we do not give legal advice, and we are not part of any law firm's staff. Our job ends the moment you and a firm decide to talk.

How firms get listed.

A firm appears on LawFirmSquare in one of two ways. Either we found them — through public state-bar records, court filings, and verified office addresses — and built a profile because they fit a city we cover, or the firm submitted itself through our List Your Firm page. Either way, before a profile goes live an editor confirms three things: the firm exists at the address listed, every named attorney has an active state-bar license in the right jurisdiction, and the practice areas claimed match what the firm actually does in court records and public filings.

How we make money.

Firms can pay for premium placement — a higher position in city listings, a "Featured" badge, sponsored slots on legal-need pages. They can also buy lead-generation packages where qualified consultation requests are routed to them. We disclose every paid placement clearly. Editorial verdicts and ratings are never for sale.

How we don't make money.

We do not take a percentage of your settlement. We do not bill on top of your hourly rate. We do not ask for a "referral fee" from your attorney. The price you see on the firm's profile is the price you pay the firm directly. Anything else would be a referral arrangement — and in many states those are heavily restricted by the rules of professional conduct.

Honest disclosures

What we don't do.

We don't give legal advice. Not on this site, not by email, not by phone. The closest we get is "this is what a lawyer in your situation would normally cost" or "here are the steps an immigration case usually goes through." For advice that applies to your case, you talk to an attorney.

We don't form attorney-client relationships. Filling in our consultation form does not create one. The relationship begins only when you and a specific firm sign an engagement letter together.

We don't guarantee outcomes. No reputable lawyer will and neither will we. What we guarantee is that the firm you contact through us is a real, licensed, currently-practicing firm with the practice area listed.

We don't sell your data. When you submit a free-consultation request we send it to the firm you selected and, if you opted in, to one or two firms in the same city with the same practice area. Nothing else. See our privacy policy for the full picture.

Common questions

FAQ

Is LawFirmSquare free for clients?

Yes. Searching firms, comparing them, and requesting a free consultation is 100% free for the person who needs a lawyer. We are paid by firms that advertise — never by you.

Do you take a cut of my settlement or my legal bill?

No. We do not take any percentage of your settlement, your hourly bill, or any fee you pay your attorney. There is no middleman fee on top of your representation.

Are the firms actually vetted?

Every firm in the directory is verified to be an actively licensed practice in the city listed, with current state-bar standing. We confirm address, practice areas, and contact details before publishing the profile, and we re-verify annually.

How fast will a firm contact me?

Most firms in the network respond to free-consultation requests within one business day. Many call back the same day. If you don't hear back in 48 hours, tell us — we'll route you to another firm.

Can I cancel a consultation?

Yes. A free consultation creates no obligation. If you decide a firm isn't a fit during the call, you simply don't move forward. You can request another consultation with a different firm at any time.

Ready to get matched with a firm?

One short form. Free consultation. No obligation.
